FADE UP FROM BLACK
LONG SHOT OF COUNTRY FARM
The story is set on a summer day out in the country.
MATILDA: Hello Dave, how are you?
DAVE: I’m doing well. What have you been up to Matilda?
MATILDA: I’ve been busy taking care of the yard.
DAVE: Oh, I’ve noticed when I drive by your yard looks really nice. How’s the rest of the family?
MATILA: They are doing fine. My brother just got a new job selling cars. My mother has been busy crocheting a blanket. She is trying to get it done for my nieces birthday.
DAVE: Wow, your brother, Carlos, is selling cars. I never thought he would be into selling cars and talking to people throughout the day. Is he going out and getting drunk every night. Does he get depressed still?
MATILDA: Oh yes, Carlos, is going out with his homeboys. He is always flirting with the ladies and all of his friends have to keep him from getting into fights because he gets wasted and he picks fights with other people. Carlos, lives alone, so he does get depressed and he probably feels lonely.
DAVE: Really, that doesn’t sound to good at all. I have something I’d like him to try if he’s willing. It will change his life.
MATILDA: Oh boy, Dave, that would be so great. What do you have in mind?
DAVE: A little something called Bikram Yoga.
MATILDA: Yoga, that would be good. I’ve never heard of Bikram Yoga. What kind of yoga is that?
DAVE: Bikram Yoga is hot yoga or hatha yoga. The room you do your practice in is hot up to one-hundred and five degrees. You sweat quite a bit during each posture. The sweating is good because it cleans out your pours. Sweating cleanses your body.
MATIDA: Sound very interesting, Dave, I’ll have to get in touch with, Carlos, to see if he’d be interested.
MATIDA: Hello Carlos, (calling on phone)
CARLOS: Hello, is this you Matilda?
MATILDA, Yes, Carlos, It’s me. how are you doing, Carlos?
CARLOS: I’m doing fine. I went out last night and I met this girl. I got her number, but I lost my cell phone. So, I won’t be able to call her.
MATILDA: That’s too bad. We’re you out drinking with your buddies again?
CARLOS: Yeah, I sure was.
MATILDA: I wish you’d stop drinking so much, I really care about you.
CARLOS: I know, but it’s hard because I like to go out and socialize.
MATILDA: Socializing is good, however you need to be more careful when it comes to drinking.
CARLOS: I understand, Matilda, would you get off my back about my drinking.
MATILDA: No, I’m not going to get off your back. I have something I’d like you to try. It’s called Bikram Yoga. Dave introduced it to me. He wanted me to see if you’d be interested in doing it. I think it would help you have a better lifestyle.
CARLOS: Why are you always wanting me to things I’m not really interested in?
MATILDA: Because I care for your overall health and well being because I’m your sister.
CARLOS: OK, can you please let, Dave, know I’ll give it a try.
MATILDA: Just give it a try, I’m hoping you’ll like it.
(walks over to Dave’s house)
MATILA: Hello Dave, how are things?
DAVE: Things are going well for me.
MATILDA: I spoke to, Carlos and he said he would be interested in joining you for a class.
DAVE: That sounds great!
MATILDA: I will see if he can make it to this Friday’s class.
DAVE: Ok, that should work.
(Matilda walks back home and calls Carlos)
MATILDA: Hello Carlos
CARLOS: Yeah, Matilda, it’s me.
MATILDA: Would, this Friday work for you to try yoga with Dave.
CARLOS: Yes, that should be fine. Should I meet him on Friday at the yoga studio.
MATILDA: Yes
(Dave and Carlos meet outside of the yoga studio)
DAVE: Hey Carlos, how are you doing?
CARLOS: Not bad, what are you dragging me into.
DAVE: I’m going to show you something that can change your life.
CARLOS: I’ve never heard of something so powerful it can change your life.
DAVE: Well, today is your day my friend.
(Dave and Carlos are in studio just before class starts)
CARLOS: It’s really hot in here, Dave. I don’t know if I can take it.
DAVE: Sure you can just follow my lead.
(Dave and Carlos are doing the postures)
CARLOS: (thinking) man Dave looks like a pretzel. I can’t believe how he is able to bend so much.
(class ends)
DAVE: How are you feeling, Carlos?
CARLOS: Actually, I don’t feel bad at all. I really feel exhausted.
DAVE: That’s good. Exhausted is good because you made your body work. I’m glad you joined me today, Carlos. That shows a great deal of courage on your part. You should be proud of yourself.
CARLOS: Thanks, Dave I’m glad I had the time off to come and try it.
DAVE: You need to come on a more regular basis. Then you will see more of a life changing result. It takes time to learn the postures.
CARLOS: I understand, Dave. I would be interested in trying it again.
(Dave and Carlos walk off into the distance)
